Mel & Ty

Mel and Ty,

These two met in high school and quickly became best friends. A mutual friend of theirs always said the two would end up married someday but being little baby teenagers, they both always denied it. Fast forward ELEVEN years and they’re engaged! Can you say meant to be?

One of my favourite questions to ask couples is the story of how they got engaged. I’ll let Mel do the honours and tell this one, “Tyler proposed Christmas morning with the entire family present. I had no idea, whatsoever. We had agreed not to do gifts, and my brother nearly blew it when he had mentioned Tyler went shopping with my sister. I assumed he got gifts despite saying we wouldn’t, so I rushed out to get him a gift. Knowing I did this, he then got me gifts because he had actually not gotten me a gift to open. After the fact, I realized what happened and all the work Tyler and my sister went through to keep it a surprise. But I honestly hadn’t a clue. My sister told me there was one more gift, and I closed my eyes. For some reason I thought I was getting a fish tank. When I opened my eyes Tyler was down on his knee in front of me. I wish I could tell you what happened next, but in true Mel fashion I blacked out.”

These adventure-loving and fur baby obsessed couple say that their secret to a lasting relationship is a shit ton of laughter and total and complete honesty. Tyler makes Mel laugh hysterically, even when she doesn’t want to and above anything else, they both feel that they can be 100% themselves together. These two bring the giggles and authenticity every single time I see them! They’re best friends and that’s apparent when I’m with them.
