Corliss & Bennett
How They Met
The couple met through mutual friends that were first Bennett's childhood friends and later became best friends with Corliss when they started playing hockey together. The twins invited Corliss to a Christmas party to meet Bennett's parents where Bennett was dressed as Santa. Bennett says, “I opened the front door to greet the twins and saw Corliss, she was beautiful. Dark hair, a sweater vest (OMG lol), and the biggest smile I had ever seen. I knew she would probably be fun to kiss.”
What They Do In Their Spare Time
Corliss and Bennett love their mini getaways and outdoor adventures in Ontario and beyond. They love finding new hiking trails and feeling like the only two people on earth. With Bennett being a shift worker, they really value the time that they do get to spend together. They’re able to truly be their weirdo selves together and have impeccable communication skills due to making it through 7 years of long distance (I mean come onnnnn).
He Knew She Was The One When…
Bennett: “We were leaving Mark's Work Warehouse in Oshawa and getting into my parent's car with a few friends, I turned to her and said, "you know you can be yourself now right?" she said, "what d'you mean? I am." That's when I knew.”
The Proposal
Bennett: “It happened in a snow laden forest in Quebec. We were staying at a cabin with no electricity or running water, on a hillside all by ourselves. I had taken her there for a Christmas present. Got there the night before and set everything up. I acted coy all night. I was sure she thought that I would propose because, well, it had been 10 years and we had been talking, more seriously, about getting married lately. The next morning I strategically snuck the ring box into my back pack and we set out after breakfast for a hike. It was a beautiful, slightly overcast day in the middle of winter, mild. We walked about 100 m's through the forest from our cabin towards a nearby private lake. We came to crossing trails and I asked if she wanted to take a picture. So I went and pretended to get my phone out of the backpack, secretly transferring the ring to my coat pocket. I set the back pack down on the ground, my phone on top, tilted and sideways so I could start a video recording, and she would think I was just setting a timer to take a photo. I walked back to her, whispered in her ear that I love her and took her hand as I dropped to one knee. I took the ring box out of my pocket opened it and asked it she would marry me. I'd say it was pretty well planned ;)”
The Ring
The ring has a simple, white gold band with a square diamond. Very Corliss!
Celebrating Their Engagement
They spent a few more days in the Winter Wonderland cabin and did more hiking around Quebec soaking in that “just engaged” feeling.
Their engagement photos best represent a typical perfect day for them.
Going for a hike with their rescue potcake, Jassie and heading home to get into some comfies. Enjoying a beer, playing games together and making Kraft Dinner. Then ending the night with a walk with their fur baby… BUT above all else, laughing and being goofy together.
